Sickbay

Medical care facility aboard starships and most starbases. They usually have their own intensive care unites, doctor's office, medical laboratory, an OB/GYN unit, examination room, and rehabilitation equipment. For those ships having families aboard, there will also be a nursery. Normally, there are at least 2 surgery suites, a physical therapy unit, a dental care office, and a full biohazard isolation unit. On most starships, at least 4 medical personnel are on duty at all times. In large scale disaster situations, sickbay faciltities can be supplemented by converting the shuttlebays into emergency triage and treatment centers. This area of the ship is the prime responsibility of the chief medical officer.
