Production of this class of starship began in 2365, at a rate of 8 vessels per year. Of the 80 vessels built to date, 70 of them are still in service. Operating as Light Explorer's, the Andromeda's have distinguished themselves over and over in the last decade, most notably the USS Drake, which was ambushed by Klingons in 2373, the USS Golden Hind, lost in the Typhoon Expanse in 2374, and the USS Rapture, destroyed during the Dominion War during the Battle to retake the Tyra System
