Cheyenne Class

The Cheyenne Class are designated as medium cruisers because of their multi-role capability, but typically vessels of this class are tasked with courier and fast scout missions.  Because of their four nacelle design, they are able to travel high warp speeds almost continuously.  They accomplish this by switching between sets of nacelles.  They can run at Warp 9.7 using their upper nacelle set for 12 hours, and then they switch to their lower set of nacelles, continuing to warp speed without interruption.  This gives the Cheyenne the ability to outpace threat forces, rush in and scan hostile areas, supply emergency relief to colonies, and so on.  This class has already been in several battle situations, playing pivotal roles in the Battle of Wolf 359, the Klingon War in 2373, and the Dominion War.  Over 70 of these vessels are in service.
