Type of Federation starship including the fourth starship Enterprise. It was the direct predecessor to the Galaxy class in terms of size and mission capabilities, and was considered by many to be the workhorse of the 23rd century. The prototype ship, USS Ambassador, bore registry number NCC-10521.
