Antares Class
This class of ship was developed in parallel with the Defiant. The compact management of hull and warp drives is common feature of both classes. The Hannibal class if not heavily armed, but also has a medical and scientific department and considerable freight capacity all of which are not available on the Defiant. There is no shuttlebay on the Antares class, only a hatch in the bottom for a single type 10 shuttlecraft. These ships are coated with a novel active hull coating that can disperse up to 90% of incident sensor rays. The coating is therefore equivalent to a cloaking device. At the Battle of Chintoka during the Dominion War, four of these starships were lost. Nine were lost toal during the war. There are presently 39 in service.
